Don’t Miss the Main Stage Shows at Wide Open Bluegrass
September 26, 2016 | grubb
Each year, for nearly a week, Raleigh transforms into a hub for bluegrass music lovers. This year, the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival unfolds from September 27th to October 1st at venues scattered all across the city. Whereas the main stage concert is ticketed, the many street festival shows are free, so there's something for everyone.
This year on the main stage at the Red Hat Amphitheater, expect to see big names in bluegrass like Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, the Del McCoury Band, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Steep Canyon Rangers. The main stage is only hosting acts on Friday and Saturday, but Tuesday through Thursday you can enjoy the music of other bands on the five street fest stages. In addition to the live music, there will also be plenty of food—including a barbecue championship—and a dance tent. Expect shopping too, with booths manned by local artists and artisans.
